Plastic reel selection cannot be based on empty reel weight alone. The gross wound-package load, duty, stacking and transport conditions are important inputs for structure, material review and validation.

Changhui plastic reel components illustrating why empty-reel information does not represent the full-package duty

Empty reel weight is useful for identifying a sample and checking packing, but it does not define what the reel must carry in service. Once the material is wound, the working package includes both the reel and its contents, together with the conditions created by handling, stacking, rotation or pay-off. Reporting only the empty weight can turn an identification detail into an unsuitable structural assumption.

A clear record separates empty reel weight from the expected gross package load and states whether each value comes from physical weighing, a drawing, an existing packing record or a target requirement. If cable diameter, length or material is not yet confirmed, mark the value as open instead of copying a figure from a visually similar project. This keeps unverified loads out of material and sample decisions.

Gross load also has to be read together with duty. Production winding, finished-goods delivery and repeated internal circulation place different emphasis on interfaces, rotation, stacking and reuse. Two reels with similar outlines cannot be assumed to behave identically under full load merely because their empty weights are close. This article gives no universal capacity and the photograph is not load evidence for a project.

For an RFQ, list flange diameter, barrel diameter, traverse width, bore and drive details, then add the gross package load and the intended stage of use. If storage or transport involves stacking, record the packing form and stacking condition as well. These entries build a review checklist; they do not mean that testing or approval has already been completed.

At the sample stage, observe mounting, winding or pay-off, handling and stacking on the actual equipment and under the applicable packing condition. Retain the sample identity, test conditions and results. Weighing an empty reel or performing a single static inspection does not represent the complete duty. Changes to cable, length, equipment or packing require the related conditions to be reviewed again.

Changhui Spool Manufacturer's public custom reel specification guide lists gross package load as an input to structural and material selection and warns against providing empty reel weight alone. The guide helps buyers organise questions but does not replace the project drawing, sample or actual validation. Final requirements still need confirmation from the responsible parties using current information. View the Changhui custom reel specification guide.
